Widow's Walk (2011)

Experimental video dance piece, improvised and edited around the idea of watching, waiting, and wanting to go home (but no longer sure where or in fact just exactly what home is). 

 

What started as a quick self-recorded improvisational dance session led to Skye recording a full a cappella cover of Guster's "Lightning Rod" to accompany the video. The title is an afterthought - the serious tone combined with the balcony setting reminded me of the Widow's Walk, an architectural rooftop feature that has been romanticized as the place a wife would watch for her husband to return from the sea. This image ties in nicely with the themes I was improvising around.
